"I am so amazed at times that I am actually alive."

POAM artist Andy Goldsworthy (Thanks @Forkergirl!) ...

"when i make a work i often take it to the very edge of its collapse; and that's a very beautiful balance."

also - this artistic experiment has me thinking about the binary space of "success/failure" and what place (if any) it has in the artistic act of making. (hmmmmm)

  1. It seems to me: The piece collapsed on film, creating drama. So it's a successful video piece even though the structure fell apart.

  2. In order for Goldsworthy to have a record of many of his nature collaborations, the acts of collaborating must be filmed. His works are primarily temporary. Even without the excellent collapse, the work would not have lasted, had to chance for permanence attached so precariously to the tree. Goldsworthy takes part in occasions that are in progress, steering aspect(s) of the occasion in some way(s) then encouraging the host of the steered occasion to steer further, to take the event poam somewhere (else).

I love what Goldsworthy has sloughed.
I love what he can't slough
    (filming the collaborations).
